Cars, vans up to 3.5 t, light trailers, quads and — after 3 years — 125 cc motorbikes. Here is exactly what category B allows in Poland.
A category B licence is the most popular driving licence in Poland, but many drivers do not know how much it really covers. Below we list what you may legally drive with it in 2026 — and where its limits are.
Cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes
Category B covers vehicles with a maximum permissible mass (DMC) of up to 3,500 kg and up to 9 seats including the driver. That means all passenger cars and most small delivery vans. Holders of B for at least 2 years may also drive alternative-fuel vans up to 4,250 kg.
Trailers
- a light trailer up to 750 kg — always allowed
- a heavier trailer if the combined mass of car and trailer does not exceed 3,500 kg
- a combination up to 4,250 kg — only with code 96 (B96) after an extra training
- anything heavier — you need category BE
Motorbikes, quads and mopeds
- mopeds up to 50 cc (category AM) — included
- quads and light quadricycles (L6e/L7e) — included
- motorbikes up to 125 cc (category A1 equivalent) — only after holding B for at least 3 years
- tractors (category T) — included
What you cannot drive
Buses, trucks above 3.5 t (C1/C), large motorbikes and paid passenger transport beyond standard rules need separate categories or permits. Remember the probation period: for the first 2 years lower speed limits apply to new drivers.
