Can you take the Polish theory test in English?

3 September 2026 · 5 min read

The state theory exam is available in English, German and Ukrainian. Here is how the English version works and how to prepare for it.

Choosing English is done when you book the exam in the WORD system. The exam software then shows every question, video and answer in English at the centre.

How the exam is built

  • 20 basic questions — yes/no, each shown with a short video or photo
  • 12 specialist questions — three answers, one correct
  • Questions are weighted 1, 2 or 3 points; 68 of 74 points are needed
  • You have 25 minutes in total, with a fixed time per question

The translation catch

The English version is a translation of the official Polish question bank and occasionally reads awkwardly. Learn the meaning of the road rule rather than memorising the wording — when a sentence is unclear, the underlying rule is what tells you the answer.

How to prepare

  • Use the official question base — our online platform gives you the English version
  • Do full 32-question mock exams under time pressure, not single questions
  • Learn the priority rules and sign groups first; they carry the most points
  • Repeat the questions you get wrong until you can explain why the answer is right

What about the practical exam?

The practical exam is conducted in Polish. Examiners use a short, fixed set of instructions, and we drill them with you during lessons. If you prefer, you can bring a sworn translator (200–300 PLN) — but most of our students pass without one.
