PKK registration for foreigners: what to prepare

You cannot legally start a Category B course in Poland without a PKK number. It is a digital profile created by a district office (urząd dzielnicy) that links your documents, your driving school and the state examination centre (WORD).

1. Check where you legally reside

Polish law requires that Poland is your normal place of residence — usually meaning you live here at least 185 days a year, or you study here. Bring a document that shows it: a residence card, a registration confirmation (zameldowanie), a student certificate or an employment contract.

2. Get the medical certificate

Any doctor authorised to examine driver candidates can issue it. The visit is short: eyesight, general health and a short interview. The certificate is issued the same day and costs around 200 PLN.

3. Collect the documents

• Completed application form (available at the office or online)
• Colour photo, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, front-facing
• Identity document — passport or residence card
• Proof of residence or stay in Poland
• Medical certificate
• Sworn translation of foreign documents, if the office asks for one

4. Apply at the district office

Submit everything at the district office for the area where you live. Some Warsaw offices accept applications online through the government portal. You normally receive the PKK number within a few working days — by SMS, e-mail or in the portal.

5. Give the number to your driving school

Send us the PKK number and we register you for the course. From that moment your theory access, practical lessons and exam registration are all tied to your profile — you never have to repeat the paperwork.

Common mistakes

• A photo that does not meet the official size or background rules
• A medical certificate issued by a doctor without driver-examination authorisation
• Applying at the wrong district office (it must match your address)
