Every learner needs a medical certificate before the PKK number. The visit takes about 15 minutes and costs around 200 PLN.
Polish law requires a medical certificate confirming there are no health contraindications to driving before you can be issued a PKK number. It is the first formality of the whole process, and the easiest one.
Who can issue it
Only a doctor authorised to examine driver candidates (uprawniony lekarz medycyny pracy). Your family doctor cannot issue it unless they hold that authorisation. Warsaw has dozens of clinics offering it, many without an appointment, and several work in English.
What the examination covers
- Eyesight — acuity, field of vision and colour recognition
- Hearing and balance, briefly
- Blood pressure and general physical condition
- A short interview about chronic illnesses, medication, epilepsy, diabetes and alcohol or drug use
Cost, time and validity
- Statutory fee: 200 PLN
- The visit takes about 15 minutes and the certificate is issued the same day
- Bring an identity document and your glasses or contact lenses if you use them
- The certificate is normally issued without a time limit for Category B, unless the doctor sets one for health reasons
If you wear glasses or have a health condition
Glasses or lenses are not an obstacle — the licence simply carries a code requiring corrective lenses while driving. Conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy may require an additional specialist opinion, so allow a few extra days.
Once you have the certificate, you apply for the PKK number at your district office and send the number to us — after that, your course can start.
