You failed the practical exam in Warsaw — what to do next

14 September 2026 · 5 min read

Failing the practical exam is normal — around two thirds of candidates in Warsaw fail their first attempt. Here is the plan for the second one.

A failed exam is not the end of the road; it is a scheduling and practice problem. Deal with it in four steps, starting on the same day.

1. Rebook immediately

You can register for the next attempt about ten minutes after the exam, once the examiner enters the result into the system. There is no waiting period and no new course required. The practical exam costs 222 PLN; you can pay by card at the customer desk or by transfer to the centre's account (Odlewnicza and Bemowo have separate accounts). Book first, then practise — the wait in Warsaw runs up to six weeks, and that time becomes your preparation window.

2. Work out why you failed

  • Stress — the most common cause; regular sleep, exercise and genuine readiness lower it more than anything else
  • Manoeuvring yard mistakes — vehicle checks, the curve drive, reversing, or the hill start
  • City driving mistakes — usually two errors in one task, or one dangerous error that ends the exam instantly
  • An instructor who did not prepare you for the real exam area
  • Bad timing — avoid the last slot of the day and book morning hours instead

3. Consider an appeal only if it is justified

If you believe the examiner was wrong, you have 14 days to file a complaint with the Marshal's Office of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, which convenes a panel with the examiner. It rarely changes a result, so in practice most candidates skip it and focus on the retake.

4. Train the exact thing that failed you

  • Failed on the yard: book half an hour on the WORD manoeuvring yard (about 40 PLN) and drill the manoeuvre there
  • Failed in traffic: book refresher lessons on the real exam routes until the manoeuvre is automatic
  • Failed on nerves: do a full mock exam with an instructor, in exam conditions
  • Failed because of the instructor: change instructor or driving school

We run refresher lessons in English at 180 PLN per hour, on the exam routes of both Warsaw centres, and we can provide our car for the exam itself.
