Driving test in Warsaw for foreigners: the complete guide

Poland issues driving licences to foreigners who legally live here — and the state exams can be taken in English. The whole process in Warsaw goes through two institutions: the district office (urząd dzielnicy), which registers your PKK candidate profile, and WORD (Wojewódzki Ośrodek Ruchu Drogowego), the state examination centre that runs the theory and practical tests.

Step 1 — Register your PKK profile

Before the first official lesson you need a PKK (Profil Kandydata na Kierowcę) number. Apply at the district office where you live, with a medical certificate (around 200 PLN), a photo and proof that Poland is your normal place of residence — a residence card, registration confirmation or student certificate. The PKK is free and usually ready the same day.

Step 2 — Complete the course

A Category B course in Poland means 30 hours of theory and 30 hours of driving. At OSK Lauto we run the course fully in English, with English-speaking instructors, and we offer manual and automatic cars. You can start the online theory lessons the same day you enrol.

Step 3 — Pass the theory exam in English

Book through info-car.pl. The theory exam is 32 questions in 25 minutes, 74 points to pass, fee 50 PLN — and it is officially available in English, German and Ukrainian. The questions come from the same state pool as the Polish version, so training apps that include English translations reflect the real exam. The result appears on screen immediately and never expires.

Step 4 — Pass the practical exam at WORD

The practical exam costs 200 PLN per attempt and lasts about 40 minutes: tasks on the manoeuvring area, then city traffic. In Warsaw, exams run at WORD Bemowo and WORD Odlewnicza — we train on the exact streets of both exam districts. WORD provides manual cars only; for an automatic exam you use our school car (290 PLN), the same car you trained in. If you do not pass, you simply book another attempt — most learners who retake succeed with a few extra hours.

Step 5 — Collect your licence
